DESCRIPTION:Prof. Xiangdong Ji\, Univ. of Maryland\n\nWhile the form factor
s and parton distributions provide separately \nthe shape of the proton in
coordinate and momentum spaces\, a more \npowerful imaging of the proton
structure can be obtained through \nphase-space distributions. In this tal
k\, I introduce the Wigner-type \nquark and gluon distributions which depi
ct a full-3D proton at every \nfixed light-cone momentum\, like what is se
en through momentum \n("color")-filters. After appropriate phase-space red
uctions\, the \nWigner distributions are related to the generalized parton
distributions \n(GPD's) and transverse-momentum dependent parton distribu
tions\, which \nare measurable in high-energy experiments. The new interpr
etation of \nGPD's provides a classical way to visualize the orbital motio
n of the \nquarks\, which is known to be the key to the spin and magnetic
moment \nof the proton.
