I will review the hist ory of underlying event (UE) studies in hadron-hadron collisions starting with the first CDF UE analysis in 2000. Early CDF UE \; measurements a t 1.8 TeV and 1.96 TeV\; the CDF "\;Tevatron Energy Scan"\; UE res ults at 300 GeV\, 900 GeV\, and 1.96 TeV\; LHC UE studies at 900 GeV and 7 TeV: and the recent LHC UE results at 13 TeV will be examined. \;&nbs p\; I will discuss what we have learned from these studies beginning with the first CDF QCD Monte-Carlo model UE tune (Tune A)\, and ending with the latest CMS UE tunes (CUETP8S1\, CUETP8M1\, and CUETHS1).
