DESCRIPTION:Brandon Craver\, UVA\n\nA precision measurement of the electric
form factor of the neutron\, G E n \, has been
carried out in Jefferson Lab's Hall A for Q 2 values of 1.2 t
o 3.5 (GeV/c) 2 using a highly polarized 3 He ta
rget and the quasi-elastic semi-exclusive 3 He(e\,e'n) reacti
on. The experiment detected the ejected neutron with an array of scintilla
tors and the scattered electron with the newly commissioned BigBite spectr
ometer. This new spectrometer has a large angular acceptance (80 msr)\, co
mplementing the existing 6 msr high-resolution spectrometers\, and enables
a new generation of low-rate experiments with lower resolution requiremen
ts. A package of three multi-wire drift chambers was constructed in order
to allow the spectrometer to operate under high rate conditions and achiev
e a spatial resolution of ~ 200 μ\;m. The present status of the experi
ment will be presented as well as online results showing chamber performan
ce at raw hit rates up to 20 MHz per plane.
